Blood Testing FAQ's

Answers to the most common blood testing clinic questions — from when to book and what you may need, to safety, timelines

FAQ

Everything you wanted to ask, before you book.

Real questions from real patients — about fasting, accuracy, follow-up, and what happens if something's flagged.

It depends on the panel. Cholesterol and glucose markers need 10–12 hours of fasting (water only) for the most accurate reading — we'll tell you when you book if your panel requires it. Hormone, thyroid and vitamin panels can usually be tested without fasting. Some hormone tests are best timed to a specific point in your menstrual cycle; we'll guide you on that too.
For most wellness panels (under 30 markers) fingerprick is just as accurate, quicker and gentler — a single small pinprick from your finger. Larger panels of 50+ markers, advanced lipid profiling or some specialist tests need a venous draw. When you book, we'll recommend the right method based on the panel you've picked.
Identical. We use UKAS-accredited UK labs — the same testing standards and often the same laboratories the NHS uses. The difference is access and speed: you choose the panel you want, you book at a time that suits you, and you get results in 48 hours rather than waiting for a GP appointment and standard NHS turnaround.
Most panels are back within 48 hours of your sample reaching the lab. Specialist or hormone-heavy panels can take 3–5 working days. You'll get an email the moment your report is ready and can view it on your secure patient portal.
A PDF report sent to your secure portal. Every marker is listed with your value, the healthy reference range, and a plain-English explanation of what that marker means. Your prescribing pharmacist reviews every report before it's released — no marker is sent to you without clinical eyes on it first.
Yes — the PDF is designed to be GP-shareable and includes all the values, ranges and units your GP will need. You can forward it directly to your surgery, print it for an appointment, or upload it to NHS App if your practice accepts attachments.
We book you in for a complimentary 15-minute review with your prescribing pharmacist to talk through the result, what it means in plain English, and what reasonable next steps look like — whether that's lifestyle changes, retesting in a few weeks, or onward referral to your GP or a specialist. You're never left to interpret an out-of-range result alone.
No — anyone aged 18 or over can self-refer and book directly. We can also test patients aged 12–17 with parental or guardian consent and attendance. There are a few specialist panels where we'll ask a few extra screening questions before booking, but for the majority of our wellness, hormone and heart panels you can book in minutes.
We do most of our panels via fingerprick — a single, quick pinprick from a fingertip rather than a venous draw — which the vast majority of needle-anxious patients find very manageable. Let us know when you book and our team will give you extra time, talk you through each step, and we can offer the appointment in a quiet room.
Yes — gift vouchers are available for any panel, and you can book and pay for someone else's test on their behalf. The person being tested will need to attend in person, consent to the test themselves and be over 18 (or accompanied by a guardian if 12–17). Vouchers are valid for 12 months from purchase.

Blood test results are for screening and wellness purposes. They do not replace a full clinical diagnosis — anything significant is signposted to your GP or an appropriate specialist as part of your free follow-up review.
