For years I thought I was just disorganised. Turns out I had ADHD the whole time — and now I have a plan.
— Adult patient, age 34

ADHD doesn't disappear at 18. Around 1 in 20 UK adults live with ADHD and most haven't been diagnosed — they've spent years being told they're scatty, lazy or anxious. The truth is the brain works differently, and there are evidence-based ways to manage it that actually help.

Your assessment is a full 90-minute structured clinical interview with one of our Consultant Psychiatrists, using validated diagnostic tools (DIVA-5, ASRS-v1.1, ACE+). If ADHD is diagnosed, you'll get a NICE NG87-compliant report, a workplace or school adjustment letter, and the option of medication via shared-care prescribing with our pharmacist team.

Children, adolescents and adults are all assessed by clinicians experienced in age-appropriate diagnosis. Same-week appointments. No GP referral needed.

I'd spent forty years feeling different. The assessment finally gave me a name for it — and a way forward.

Recognising the signs

Does any of this sound like you, or someone you love?

You don't need a definitive answer to book — just a question. These are the experiences that bring most of our patients in, at any age.

ADHD

Things ADHD often sounds like

In children, adolescents and adults
  • I keep starting things and not finishing them.
  • Time feels different to me — I lose hours, miss deadlines, run late.
  • I'm great in a crisis but useless with routine, boring tasks.
  • My brain has seventeen tabs open and they're all important.
  • I've been told I 'should be doing better' my whole life.
  • I procrastinate even when I really, really want to do the thing.
In childrenChildren often present as restless, disruptive in class, forgetful, unable to wait their turn — or 'daydreamy' and seemingly switched-off.

Autism

Things autism often sounds like

In children, adolescents and adults
  • I've spent my life feeling like everyone got a manual I didn't.
  • Sounds, lights, textures or smells can overwhelm me
  • I need recovery time after socialising — even with people I love.
  • I have deep, focused interests that have lasted years.
  • Change in plans throws me off — I need warning, I need predictability.
  • I take things literally and people sometimes get frustrated with me.
In childrenChildren may prefer solo play, avoid eye contact, struggle with change, have sensory meltdowns, or have intense focused interests far beyond their age.

Both lists feel familiar?

AuDHD is more common than you'd think.

Research suggests 30–50% of autistic people also have ADHD, and many adults are diagnosed with both at the same time. We assess for either or both in one appointment.

FAQ

Everything you wanted to ask, before you book.

Real questions from real patients — about Right to Choose, NHS waiting lists, medication, what happens if you don't get a diagnosis, and how we make the assessment manageable.

No — anyone can self-refer directly. We assess adults and children from age 6 without needing GP involvement. If you'd like your GP looped in afterwards, the diagnostic report is fully shareable. For shared-care prescribing (medication after diagnosis), your GP needs to agree to participate — most GPs do, but we'll help you navigate that conversation.
We assess children from age 6 and adults of any age. Children's assessments are age-tailored and include parent or carer involvement throughout. Teen assessments work directly with the young person where appropriate, with parental consent. Adult assessments are 1-to-1, though you're welcome to bring someone with you for support.
ADHD assessments take 90 minutes. Autism assessments take 2 to 3 hours — they're longer because the diagnostic tools (ADOS-2 and ADI-R) involve structured observation and developmental history. Combined ADHD + Autism assessments take 3 to 4 hours, usually split across two sessions if you'd prefer.
Yes. Under NHS Right to Choose, you can choose any qualified provider for your outpatient mental health assessment — including us — at no cost to you. You'll need a GP referral letter naming us as your chosen provider; we'll send you a template wording your GP can copy across. Right to Choose currently applies in England (not Scotland, Wales or NI) and waiting times are usually weeks rather than months.
No — keep your NHS referral active until you have a confirmed diagnosis with us. If you do receive a diagnosis privately, we can support you to transition or maintain dual NHS/private care depending on your needs. Many patients use private assessment for speed and NHS for long-term medication review.
Yes. Research suggests 30–50% of autistic people also have ADHD, and many adults are diagnosed with both at the same time. We offer combined assessments where the Consultant Psychiatrist evaluates both conditions in one appointment — the diagnostic tools overlap significantly, so a combined assessment is the most thorough route if you're unsure which fits.
You'll receive a detailed written report explaining what was assessed, what diagnostic criteria were considered, and where your scores landed on each measure. If criteria weren't met but traits were present, we'll say so clearly. We also signpost to other possibilities that can mimic ADHD or Autism — anxiety, trauma, sleep disorders, hormonal changes — so you leave with a clearer picture, not just a 'no'.
Through shared-care prescribing with your GP. The Consultant Psychiatrist who diagnoses you also initiates and titrates your medication — finding the right dose typically takes 8 to 12 weeks. Once you're stable, your GP takes over routine prescribing under a shared-care agreement, and our pharmacist team handles continuity of care, dispensing and annual review.
Yes. All diagnoses are made by GMC-registered Consultant Psychiatrists following NICE NG87 (ADHD) and CG142/CG128 (Autism) guidance. That means the report is fully recognised for: NHS shared-care prescribing, workplace adjustments under the Equality Act 2010 (PIP claims, reasonable adjustments, Access to Work funding), and school/college support including EHCP applications and DSA for university students.
Yes — we've designed the clinic around this. Soft lighting (no fluorescent strips), no time pressure, breaks whenever you need them, and you can bring a support person or assistance animal. Tell us in advance what helps — noise-cancelling headphones, fidget tools, dimmed screens, written instead of spoken instructions — and we'll set the room up before you arrive.
Have a question we haven't answered? Drop us a message — we reply the same working day.Ask us anything

ADHD and Autism assessments are made by GMC-registered Consultant Psychiatrists in line with NICE NG87 (ADHD) and CG142 / CG128 (Autism). A diagnosis is one part of a wider clinical picture — anything significant identified during your assessment is signposted to appropriate ongoing care.
